Dr. Lourenço Garcia
Dr. Lourenço Garcia is the Assistant Superintendent of Equity and Inclusion and Chair of the Equity Advisory Board of Revere Public Schools. He joined Revere Public Schools as its High School Principal in 2010. Previous experiences include Principal of Woonsocket High School, Assistant of Principal of William E. Tolman High School (Rhode Island), Social Studies Teacher at Brockton High School (Massachusetts), and Geography Teacher at “Domingos Ramos” High School (Cape Verde).
His undergraduate and graduate studies include a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, a Bachelor’s Degree in Military and Political Science, a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics, and a Doctorate in Urban Education, Leadership, and Policy Studies from the University of Massachusetts Boston.
Dr. Garcia provides leadership on critical issues in diversity, inclusion, and equity throughout the district to ensure anti-racism education, programs, policies, practices, and systems are thoughtfully constructed and consistently implemented to create a fairer, equitable, and uniform school system for all students and families, particularly those historically underserved or systematically marginalized. He leads this work with passion, confidence, and humility because he believes that building a truly equitable education system requires a shift of leadership mindset accompanied by candid and courageous conversations about race, equity, and social justice.
Dr. Garcia’s areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, equity and inclusion, civil rights, public policy, educational leadership, curriculum, instruction and assessment, special education, sociolinguistics, second-language acquisition, intercultural and cross-and communication, family engagement, and systems change. He is proficient in Cape Verdean, Portuguese, English, Spanish, Russian, and French languages.
