Revere Youth Risk Behavior Survey
The Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) was developed in 1990 by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC). Revere Public Schools (RPS) has administered the YRBS since 1997 at our Middle School and High School levels.
The YRBS is used to examine health risk behaviors that are linked to the leading causes of death and disease and to monitor changes in those behaviors over time.
Revere YRBS data is used to create local and state-level estimates of youth social-emotional well-being, substance use, sexual health, violence, injury, physical activity, nutrition and hunger, and other health risk behaviors. This data is a vital resource to help guide decision-making and resource allocation for effective prevention and control programs for schools and communities.
The YRBS results help policymakers, school administrators, social service workers, and health personnel in a variety of ways:
- To develop local and school policies that support and enhance overall health & well-being
- To plan and improve youth-based health programs within the school and community
- To determine existing health needs in order to develop effective supportive intervention programs
- To provide the most recent and updated information for local, state, and national grant submissions
- To improve the development of classroom lessons geared towards reducing health risk behaviors among adolescents through essential health skill-building and health literacy
Youth Risk Behavior Survey Administration
Caregivers will be notified in advance of survey administration, and provided the opportunity to OPT OUT their student from taking part in the YRBS survey if they elect to do so. OPT OUT processes are identified within the notification distributed by middle schools and high schools.
