Family Engagement

Families are the most important part of educating our students. In order to give parents all of the tools they need so they can help their child have a positive educational experience, we have provided a list of resources for parents to refer to as they navigate their child’s educational journey.

Please refer to our family engagement policy, listed below, as well as the other resources provided for families.

Family Engagement Policy

Community support is based on a mutual exchange, a dynamic process in which the district contributes to the community's success and, in turn, benefits from the community's resources. RPS is committed to engaging families in a meaningful way, allowing them to participate fully in their children's education.

RPS Hosts Community Night on Housing and Youth Support

The Haven Project and the Revere Housing Authority give presentations
Revere Public Schools held an event for families, students, and community members to talk about housing stability, youth support, and access to important resources. The Haven Project and the Revere Housing Authority gave presentations at the event. The purpose of the event was to foster connections and facilitate information sharing. It focused on both short-term and long-term solutions for residents facing trouble finding a place to live.

The Haven Project is based on the North Shore and works with young adults from all over the area. These young adults come from a variety of backgrounds, including LGBTQ+ youth, survivors of domestic violence, and people who are having trouble with things like a lack of family support, mental health issues, financial instability, or immigration issues. The organization does not directly help families or people who need a lot of medical or drug abuse treatment, but staff members stressed that they work closely with partner agencies to make sure that anyone who asks for help is connected to the right resource.

Patricia Duffy from the Revere Housing Authority gave a thorough overview of the public housing and voucher programs that are available to residents. Duffy went over the requirements for eligibility, the income limits, and the differences between housing options funded by the federal government and those funded by the state. He stressed that most programs are based on household income and that tenants usually have to pay 30 percent of their income toward rent.
RPS Hosts Event on Healthy Relationships & Substance Use Awareness

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Research shows that teen dating violence often leads to domestic violence in adulthood, creating long-term harm for both survivors and offenders if the behavior goes unaddressed. Compounding the issue, studies also reveal a strong correlation between domestic violence and substance abuse, which are often linked in a destructive cycle—substance use may serve as a coping mechanism for victims while also contributing to an abuser’s aggression.

With these realities in mind, Revere Public Schools (RPS) recently hosted a Caregiver Learning Series, an evening designed to equip parents and guardians with tools to navigate the challenges young people face today. The session, part of the district’s ongoing Family Engagement Nights, was timed to coincide with Domestic Violence Awareness Month and focused on supporting caregivers in recognizing the signs of unhealthy teen relationships and youth substance use.

The program featured two presentations: “Healthy Relationships and Youth,” led by Penny King and Cindy Cruz of HarborCOV, and “Talking Tips: Understanding Youth Substance Use and Strategies to Support Your Child,” presented by Brittany Carney of Boston Medical Center’s Grayken Center for Addiction.
